Pecopteris Aborescens  

Pecopteris is a genus of extinct ferns that lived during the Carboniferous period, approximately 299 to 252 million years ago. These ferns were abundant during the Pennsylvanian subperiod, which lasted from 323.2 to 298.9 million years ago. The fronds of Pecopteris ferns were typically pinnate, meaning that they had a central axis with smaller leaflets branching off on either side. The leaflets were often long and narrow, with a pointed tip and a slightly curved shape. Some species of Pecopteris had fronds that were up to two meters long, making them some of the largest ferns of their time.

Pecopteris fossils are found all over the world, including in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. They are often preserved as impressions in shale or sandstone, although some specimens have been found in three dimensions. The preservation of Pecopteris fossils has provided valuable information about the ecology and evolution of ferns during the Carboniferous and Permian periods.
