Peridot Mesa is renowned as a significant source of peridot, with the San Carlos Apache Reservation being the primary location for peridot mining in the United States. The peridot is found within basalt flows on the mesa. The mesa is located east of Globe, Arizona. The peridot occurs as individual grains and aggregates within the basalt.

Mining on Peridot Mesa is restricted to members of the San Carlos Apache Tribe. A tribal recreation permit is required to visit the area. Permits can be purchased at the San Carlos Apache Recreation and Wildlife Department office, located off Highway 70, east of Globe. 

Peridot Mesa is a remnant of a dormant volcano. The peridot is found in the basalt, which is about 3 to 35 meters thick. The peridot grains are typically 6 to 13 millimeters in size.

The area is also known for wildflowers, especially Mexican goldpoppies, which bloom in the spring. The town of Peridot, Arizona, is located within the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation. The San Carlos Apache Tribe has been mining peridot for about 50 years, which contributes to the local economy.
