Quartz Crystal, also known simply as quartz, is a mineral composed of silicon and oxygen atoms in a continuous framework of SiO4 silicon-oxygen tetrahedra, with each oxygen being shared between two tetrahedra, giving an overall chemical formula of SiO2. Quartz is the second most abundant mineral in Earth’s continental crust, behind feldspar. It occurs in various forms and colors, including clear rock crystal, purple amethyst, yellow citrine, and pink rose quartz. Quartz crystals have a hexagonal crystal structure and are prized for their piezoelectric properties, which allow them to generate an electric charge when subjected to mechanical stress.
