Sodalite is a tectosilicate mineral that belongs to the sodalite group, which includes other minerals such as lazurite and hauyne. It is characterized by its rich royal blue color, often mottled with white calcite veins. This mineral has a waxy luster and is known for its opaque transparency. Sodalite was first discovered in the 19th century in Greenland and can also be found in locations such as Ontario, Canada; Brazil; India; and Namibia. The name “sodalite” derives from the Ancient Greek term meaning “salt stone,” reflecting its unique appearance reminiscent of salt crystals.
